A little painting… a little singing

In an attempt to do something that would be a purely social activity for some of the Christ Church Choir members, I organized a “Painting Party” for this last Monday of August 2011.  There were 19 of us who were able to participate and it was definitely something we would all do again.

Painting is something that reveals a person’s personality in a unique way.  Those who adhere to the rules ALWAYS tend to follow the instructor in detail, using the exact same colors and even reaching for a ruler to make sure their lines are straight.  Then there are the “free spirits” who color outside the lines… well, who am I kidding… is there supposed to be a line there?  Some people are leaders at all times and they strike out on their own making new color choices and creating their own “design within a design”.  Some people are fast… some slow… some can’t make up their mind.  We are ALL in there and yet somehow everyone finishes with a beautiful masterpiece that reveals who we are.

The highlight of the evening for me was at the end of our class. After we all gathered for the final group picture, we sang a song for our sweet instructor.  It took us a few moments before we decided what to sing but then we began this simple worship melody….

“I will sing praise.  I will lift my voice.
I will sing praise.  I’ve made my choice.
I will sing praise in all I do.
I will sing praise to you.
No matter the storms that come my way.
No matter the trials I may face
You promised that you would see me through.
So I will sing praise to you”

I looked at the instructor as we began to sing the chorus once again and I could see tears in her eyes.  It’s amazing how the presence of God is with us at all times and that presence begins to fill a room like thick caramel when we begin to praise Him.

When we finished singing, the instructor said, “I’m so glad that’s the song you sang… because I really needed to hear that”.

Keep your eyes open.  God will use you even when you are just planning a “social” night out with your friends!
